plik avient debuts fiber reinforced composites with recycled content plasticstoday com
Avient has introduced a new range of long-fiber reinforced composites that incorporate post-industrial recycled resin content, suitable for applications such as office furnishings and outdoor adventure gear. These new formulations are part of Avient’s larger initiative to include recycled content in their products, following the introduction of Complēt™ R nylon 6 long-fiber composites, which utilized recycled nylon 6 material reclaimed from end-of-life fishing nets. The Complēt™ R composites match the stiffness, strength, and toughness of standard nylon 6 long-fiber composites that use virgin resin. This makes them an environmentally friendlier alternative to metals in structural applications due to their lighter weight and the efficiency of single-step injection molding. The formulations come in a standard black color and are available globally, offering different levels of recycled content to meet various performance and sustainability requirements.
Avient’s new offerings can contain anywhere from 25% to 100% recycled content for polyamide 66 (PA66) and from 25% to 75% recycled content for thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). This range allows manufacturers to tailor the materials to their specific needs, whether prioritizing sustainability, performance, or a balance of both. The company’s commitment to leading the industry in sustainable solutions is reinforced by their expansion of the product line to include new resin matrices beyond the initial PA6 resin. The goal is to assist Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in meeting their sustainability targets while maintaining the material properties essential for demanding structural applications.
